Eco FAQs
How do you get clean greens with no chemicals?
Our farm is totally protected from the outside world. We create an environment where disease is unable to thrive, and pests are unable to enter the facility. Removing the need for chemical control.
Doesn’t that use a lot of power?
LED lighting efficiencies have improved drastically over the last decade. Our pots use an average of 28 watts of electricity to be fully grown. We opt to be powered only by renewable sources of electricity, it’s our long-term vision to run off 100% solar generated power from the farms itself.
Where are your seeds sourced from?
Although we can’t tell you all of our secrets, our seeds are always sourced from responsible suppliers. All seed supply is non GMO, and non treated with chemicals.
What’s your packaging made out of?
Our packaging is proudly made from 100% sustainable , recyclable, or compostable materials. Our paper pots are made from 100% recycled paper, lined with PLA derived from corn starch.
How is indoor farming more water efficient?
Indoor growing environments limit water loss due to run off and evaporation. Water is contained, recaptured, and reused. The only water that leaves the facility, is the water retained in the product!
How does Herbalism reduce food miles?
It’s our proximity more than anything else that helps support the reduction of food miles. Being positioned in Newcastle means we’ve got thousands of restaurants and customers at our finger tips.
What about your soil?
Our soil is a blended coir product. Coir is the husk of a coconut and is considered a renewable source of potting mix. We ensure that the additional components of our soil are sourced from non-destructive avenues.
What do I do with my pots after harvest?
Once you’ve harvested your Herbalism microgreens; pots can be composted, as they’re made from home compostable material, and soil, which is also compostable.
If you don’t have composting options available, return to harvested pots to us and we’ll ensure that they’re composted efficiently.
